Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today said the independent and democratic Bangladesh was built based on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman s love for his people. Something we are able to celebrate (50 years of independence) today because of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman s vision for an independent and democratic country, one which was built on his love for its people, he said in a video message marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and 50th anniversary of independence.

DHAKA, March 17, 2021 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today urged politicians to take lessons from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s ideals and devote them selflessly in serving the country as he addressed the inauguration of the 10-day celebrations of Father of the Nation’s birth centenary and golden jubilee celebrations of 1971 Independence.
âTake lessons from the ideals and works of Bangabandhu . . . and devote to serve the country and its people,â he said at the function at the National Parade Square.
The President said contrary to examples set by the country’s founder politics in Bangladesh now seemed to have taken a different course with some opportunists seemed to have taken politics as a “profession” for narrow personal interests.

Bangabandhu birth centenary celebration inaugurated

The inaugural event of the celebrations of birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence is over.
Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih attended the programme as the guest of honour.
Chaired by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the inaugural ceremony was attended by President Abdul Hamid, among others.
The event starting with national anthem took place in the National Parade Ground. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga delivered video messages.
The programme was followed by a musical soiree.
