Halfords have warned there is a maximum speed limit on many roads in the UK which can make it confusing for motorists.
They say drivers should use the maximum speed limits as a rule of thumb and not stray too far away from this.
This will ensure motorists do not break the law or put others at risk with their dangerous driving.
Mr Smithson added: “It’s not uncommon for drivers to pick up bad habits on the road, even if they have been driving for years, however many are unaware that they could be illegal and dangerous.

Wandsworth Council has published plans that will see lorries weighing more than 7.5 tonnes banned from passing through Tooting Fishponds. The ban was supported by residents early last year, who voiced their support for a ban on heavy lorries using their residential area as a convenient cut through. Following a consultation, the council will introduce a ban on lorries weighing more than 7.5 tonnes from entering Fishponds Road, Garratt Lane, Glenburnie Road, the Upper Tooting Road and Beechcroft Road. The restrictions would apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all large lorries accessing the area.
