CHARLESTON Despite still leading the nation in COVID-19 vaccinations, Gov. Jim Justice and officials in charge of vaccine distribution addressed concerns Monday over the state’s handling of vaccinations for seniors and teachers. Justice announced last Wednesday that residents aged 80 and older could start receiving COVID-19 vaccines available through Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna that day. As of Monday, more than 8,300 seniors age 80 and older have been vaccinated.

Kanawha seniors receive first round of COVID-19 vaccine

Kanawha seniors receive first round of COVID-19 vaccine By Kanawha-Charleston Health Department CHARLESTON, W.Va. Several hundred Kanawha County senior citizens got their first round of COVID-19 vaccine during a by-appointment-only clinic Saturday. The clinic was moved to the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center to provide more room. The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department had a limited number of doses. The appointment slots were filled quickly Friday over the phone. KCHD said it administered 944 vaccinations to those 80 or older, their caregivers and first responders. “We were so pleased to be able to offer these vaccines to our first responders and to seniors,” said Dr. Sherri Young, health officer and executive director of the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. “It’s especially rewarding to give those who are most at risk to COVID-19 one more tool to keep themselves safe and healthy.”
