The announcement comes one day after NY lawmakers filed a legalization bill, and the same day that neighboring Connecticut’s Governor Ned Lamont reiterated his own plans.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Wednesday his plans for cannabis legalization, and for streamlining the state’s existing medical cannabis and hemp industries.
While details are expected to emerge as part of Cuomo’s State of the State address next week, Cuomo’s plan includes the creation of an Office of Cannabis Management, which would regulate the existing medical cannabis and hemp programs, as well as the new adult use program.

Efforts surrounding the legalization and decriminalization of weed are ongoing, with laws involving recreational and medical use of marijuana varying by state.
Thirty-four states currently have marijuana legalized either medically or recreationally, allowing for the majority of Americans to have access to weed in one way or another.
