Mother Charged With Manslaughter In Manchester Child Death Case

(Manchester Police Department ) MANCHESTER, CT The mother of a child found dead at a Manchester home in November has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, police said. Alesha Cain, 30 of Manchester, was also charged with first-degree assault, cruelty to persons and risk of injury to a minor, according to an arrest report. She was held over the weekend on a $650,000 bond and was to appear in court Monday. The case dates back to Nov. 26, when, at 2:43 a.m., Manchester police department patrol officers responded to an Oakland Street apartment following a 911 call that reported an unresponsive child.

Police have arrested 30-year-old Alesha Cain. The arrest comes following an investigation into the death of a 3-year-old that happened back on Nov. 26, 2020. Police were called to an apartment on Oakland Street a little before 3 a.m. that morning for the report of an unresponsive child. The boy was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. It is unclear at this time what the cause of death was. According to police, an investigation into the circumstances of the child’s death was conducted by detectives assigned to the Investigative Services – Child Investigations Unit. They secured an arrest warrant for the child’s mother, Alesha Cain.

U.S. District Court Judge Michael Shea in December granted AmGUARD Insurance Co.’s motion to dismiss the case, concluding the restaurant’s insurance policy’s virus exclusion meant any losses due to the pandemic weren’t covered. Like Lenny & Joe’s, an array of businesses, from restaurants to manufacturers and medical providers, have experienced pandemic-related losses in the past year, and several have turned to the courts when their insurance carriers denied coverage.
