Lawsuit Aiming to Toss Policy Allowing Transgender Athletes to Compete Denied

https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/20690539-souleruling?responsive=1&title=1 The CIAC, which oversees scholastic sports in the state, allows high school athletes to compete in sports according to their gender identity. The lawsuit was filed a year ago by cisgender runners who argued they were deprived of wins, state titles and athletic opportunities by being forced to compete against two transgender sprinters. The lawsuit had been closely watched since the Trump administration’s Justice Department and the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights had sided with the plaintiffs. But the Biden administration withdrew that support in February. Conservative lawmakers in more than 20 states have introduced legislation to ban or limit transgender athletes from competing on teams or sports that align with their gender identity. Laws banning transgender women and girls from participating in organized sports have been signed in Idaho, Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas.

Norwich Tech Talk: Returning a piece of history

Norwich Tech Talk: Returning a piece of history By Patricia Luca Lisa Velez, the Norwich Technical High School principal’s altruistic secretary, made a life altering humanitarian gesture. During the first week of March, a letter addressed to Principal Patricia D. King was received in the main office. The letter stated: “The enclosed class ring was found many years ago – many attempts were made to locate the owner without success. Eventually, the ring was put away and forgotten. The enclosed ring has the inscriptions: Norwich Technical High School, Class of 1989, with the symbol for hair dressing / cosmetology and the name Joanne M. Palmer. The attached article triggered a memory. Hopefully, Norwich Tech, like Xavier High, can assist with locating the rightful owner. The article was entitled: Connecticut man reunited with high school class ring lost at beach 39 years ago. The article was posted by WTNH-TV-8 “Weather Tweed New Haven Connecticut Community station.”
