CONNECTICUT On Wednesday, Connecticut became the 6th state to forbid religious exemption from childhood vaccination requirements for schools.
Gov. Ned Lamont signed the legislation into law hours after state senators voted 22-14 in favor of the bill. All Republicans and two Democrats voted against it in the heavily Democratic legislature after nine hours of debate.
The Nutmeg State joined Maine, New York, West Virginia, Mississippi and California in an exclusive club forbidding any kind of vaccination exemption other than medical. Currently, 29 states allow religious exemptions, and another 15 allow philosophical exemptions for children whose parents object to immunizations because of personal, moral or other beliefs.

WESTPORT The Westport Weston Health District has resumed its Johnson & Johnson clinics after the federal pause.
State officials announced on Saturday that clinics could offer the one-shot vaccine again following a recommendation from the Food and Drug Administration. The vaccine had been paused so officials could look into reports of several women developing blood clots after receiving it.

The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) announced on April 23, 2021, it has confirmed the second case of measles in a Fairfield County child. The infected child is a household contact of the child who contracted the first case of measles announced on April 9th.
These are the first cases of measles in Connecticut since 2019. Most cases of measles are acquired or linked to international travel.
“The single best way to protect yourself and your children from measles is to be vaccinated,” said DPH Acting Commissioner Dr. Deidre Gifford in a media statement. “We must ensure we continue to protect our children from vaccine-preventable illnesses through on-time vaccination.”

The return of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine following a temporary pause will likely have little impact on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Connecticut, which is seeing waning demand.
Several Connecticut providers said they are not relying on the resumption of the J&J vaccine to meet their numbers. The state is hoping the “one and done” vaccine will still appeal to those who, before the pause, expressed interest in it for that reason.
