Once an intern in the office of Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Kay Barnes, current Mayor Quinton Lucas strongly supports the Working For Youth internship initiative.
With the goal of placing 500 Kansas City young people as paid interns in area businesses, Working For Youth s Hire KC program has received 900 applications to date.

Apr. 26 JEFFERSON CITY Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas slammed a proposal Monday by state lawmakers to review cities pandemic aid spending, the latest in a series of legislative moves that city officials say undermines the principle of local control.
The proposal was heard by the House Budget Committee Monday, as Lucas administration prepares this week to outline how he wants to spend the first $95 million that the city has received from the federal government through the American Rescue Plan.
The bill sponsored by House Budget Chair Cody Smith, a Carthage Republican, would form a state oversight committee to look into local governments spending of those dollars to root out fraud.
KANSAS CITY â A young public radio journalist has died after being struck by a stray bullet inside her Kansas City apartment.
Aviva Okeson-Haberman, 24, was struck by a bullet Friday afternoon while she was in her first-floor apartment, according to KCUR, where she worked. Okeson-Haberman had been covering Missouri government and politics at the station where she had worked since 2019 after graduating from the University of Missouri.
