With the goal of placing 500 Kansas City young people as paid interns in area businesses, Working For Youth s Hire KC program has received 900 applications to date. As a former intern himself, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas knows the value of the career exploration that internships can provide. The proposal was heard by the House Budget Committee Monday, as Lucas administration prepares this week to outline how he wants to spend the first $95 million that the city has received from the federal government through the American Rescue Plan. KANSAS CITY — A young public radio journalist has died after being struck by a stray bullet inside her Kansas City apartment. Aviva Okeson-Haberman, 24, was struck by a bullet Friday afternoon while she was in her first-floor apartment, according to KCUR, where she worked. Okeson-Haberman had been covering Missouri government and politics at the station where she had worked since 2019 after graduating from the University of Missouri. After news of Okeson-Haberman’s death broke Sunday, many colleagues and public officials, including Kansas Gov.
