Updated: 3:43 PM CDT May 27, 2021 KMBC 9 News Staff Police in Kansas City, Kansas, said a man has been charged in the shooting death of his neighbor in March.James Edward Merrick Jr. was arrested earlier this month in Topeka and has been charged in the March 31 killing of Mark Winner.Police said Merrick faces a number of charges, including murder in the first degree in the commission of a felony; aggravated endangerment of a child; criminal possession of a firearm by a felon; criminal discharge of a firearm; and distribution of illegal drugs.Investigators said Winner was inside his home in the 6400 block of Farrow Avenue when a stray bullet came through the window and hit him. He died at the scene.Police said an investigation revealed that Merrick was involved in a shooting outside the home.Authorities said Merrick fled but was taken into custody in Topeka. He was booked into the Wyandotte County Jail.Police said the fatal shooting remains under investigation
