Halpert raises money for sepsis research in honor of late father
Kayla Halpert, second from right, with her family, from left, her late father David, brother Zachary, and mother Melissa. Halpert is raising money to fund sepsis research following her father’s death.
CUMBERLAND – Kayla Halpert vividly remembers her dad, David, coming home from the hospital after a routine Thursday surgery and becoming feverish and delusional, passing out on the bathroom floor.
“We didn’t know the signs to look for,” she said, and by the time he developed full-blown symptoms of sepsis two days later, on Saturday, it was too late. By Sunday, March 22, 2020, her dad, age 50, had died at Rhode Island Hospital, three months before his daughter’s high school graduation. He also left his wife, Melissa, and son Zachary.

CUMBERLAND – Cumberland High School Principal Adolfo Costa is one of three finalists in the search to replace Blackstone-Millville Regional High School Principal Michael Dudek.
Gina Flanagan, a former principal at two Massachusetts high schools, and Donna Zannelli, an associate principal at Southbridge High School and former assistant principal at Cumberland High, are the other two candidates.
A departure by Costa would leave Cumberland looking to find both a new superintendent and new high school principal in 2021.
