Traditionally, Hershey High School has held senior events all within a 10-day window in late May. It was a time of celebration that was really cool for the graduating class, principal Jeffrey Smith said.
Enter the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Hershey’s 2020 prom, like so many other high schools, was canceled, along with almost every other school event.
One year later, Hershey’s prom is back on. To allow for any possible quarantine needed, its senior events are now spread out with two weeks in between. The high school will hold its prom on May 12.
It was perhaps fitting that when PennDOT District 9 officials met with local government officials on Thursday, road crews â hopefully for the last time this season â were called out in some places to treat highways for snow and ice.
At the annual Bedford County transportation outreach meeting, held virtually because of lingering COVID-19 concerns, county maintenance manager Mark Yeckley reflected that âItâs been a very trying year for everybody.â
On top of continued virus concerns, the winter â coming on the heels of an exceptionally mild 2019-20 season â was a rough one, Yeckley told the group.
âIt has taken a little bit of a toll,â Yeckley said.

th Annual Daniel Boone Visionary Award Dinner, on April 15, as the 2021 Visionary Award Recipient.
The event was a fundraiser to support the Mountain Laurel District Boy Scouts. London troop 572 Scouts were in attendance for the event. They presented the colors as well as retired them at the conclusion of the event. The Mountain Laurel District serves Bell, Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel and Whitley counties.
Each year the Daniel Boone Visionary Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated commitment and vision to help young people in the region grow mentally and physically while supporting the development of high moral standards in youth, said Rich Prewitt, the director of marketing and economic development at Cumberland Valley electric and the chairman of the Daniel Boone Visionary Award Banquet fundraiser.
