Keys handed over at Carlisle’s new cancer centre at the Cumberland Infirmary
A project to develop a new cancer centre in north Cumbria is entering the final stages after keys to the building were officially handed over.
The new centre named the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria has been built on the Cumberland Infirmary site and is a partnership between North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle Hospitals. This will mean that more people can access care closer to home, improving cancer services for patients all over north Cumbria.
Police are appealing for information after a hit and run took place. The failure to stop is believed to have happened on May 24 at just after 7pm when a black car is believed to have hit a cyclist at Warwick on Eden. A spokesman for the police said: We are investigating a fail to stop road traffic collision that happened on the road leading from Warwick on Eden towards Head Nook, on May 24 at about 7.05pm. It was reported that the driver of a black Ford Fiesta or Focus failed to stop having been in collision with a cyclist. The vehicle continued towards Corby Hill.

Health chiefs have released virtual tours of the maternity suites in north Cumbria to help make parents-to-be more comfortable before they give birth.
Midwives at the North Cumbria Integrated Care Trust have been supporting families however they could during the coronavirus pandemic and trust staff created the virtual tours to help them be familiar with the surroundings when they arrived.
The tours, of the suites at the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary, were a really important part of the process before people gave birth.
The trust said: “It’s important to us that anyone who is coming on the unit feels familiar with their surroundings; even better if it can be done from the comfort from your own home.”
