GDP arms Phnom Penh inmates with Covid jabs, Preah Sihanouk next

The General Department of Prisons (GDP) under the Ministry of Interior will vaccinate 1,700 inmates in Preah Sihanouk province after completing the vaccination of more than 10,000 detainees in Phnom Penh in a three-day campaign, according to GDP spokesman Nuth Savana. We are working faster than planned, so we finished vaccinating in Phnom Penh prisons on May 9. We are now waiting for approval to vaccinate inmates in Preah Sihanouk province where there are high risks of Covid-19 transmission. There are over 1,700 detainees in the prison, Savana said.
On May 8, the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration released a report revealing that 34 inmates at the prison tested positive for Covid-19.
Phnom Penh municipal governor Khuong Sreng released an official map detailing the red, yellow and dark yellow zones within the city under the new lockdown orders for Phnom Penh announced on April 26.

The government on April 25 decided to lift the inter-provincial travel ban and the closure of tourist attractions across the country, effectively immediately.
The travel ban and closures of all resorts were imposed on April 6 and 17 respectively in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19,
The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration issued a set of detailed guidelines for the seven days to May 12 after the capital emerges from lockdown at the onset of May 6.

Storms damage over 1,600 homes in first week of May

More than 1,600 homes were damaged and five people injured by thunderstorms in the first week of May, but no one was killed, according to an official from the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM).
NCDM spokesman Seak Vichet told The Post on May 8 that compared to the same period last year, the weather this year was more severe due to the speed and strength of thunderstorms, which Cambodia has not experienced for a long time.
Vichet explained that the current weather conditions in Cambodia are affected by storms coming from other countries, which have caused strong winds that damaged property and homes.
