A US senior diplomat has flagged Washington s serious concerns about China s military presence at a naval base undergoing Beijing-backed expansion on Cambodia s coast and sought clarification on the demolition of US-funded buildings in the area.
Wendy Sherman, the deputy secretary of state, made the remarks during a two-hour meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday in Phnom Penh amid her 11-day diplomatic tour in Southeast Asia. Deputy Secretary Sherman expressed serious concerns about the PRC s (People s Republic of China) military presence and construction of facilities at Ream Naval Base on the Gulf of Thailand, the US State Department said in a statement.

BEIJING (AP) â China said Thursday its relationship with Cambodia has made positive contributions to regional peace and stability, after the U.S. expressed concerns about the presence of the Chinese military in the Southeast Asian nation.
In a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Tuesday, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman focused on China s construction of new facilities at Ream Naval Base.
