VIETNAM and Cambodia celebrated 42 years since the defeat of the Western-backed Pol Pot regime on Thursday in a joint ceremony.
Cambodian Consulate General Sok Dareth expressed profound gratitude to the Vietnamese Communist Party at the Ho Chi Minh City commemoration for their efforts in helping the country “escape from the genocidal regime.”
Quoting Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, he said “thanks to Vietnam, Cambodia could build up its armed forces and liberate the people and the country has the best friend that is Vietnam.”
The two nations have strong bilateral relations and recently signed an agreement regarding land border demarcation while supporting each other at regional and international forums to co-operate in developing their economies.

Cambodia’s 1st community Covid-19 outbreak over: PM

Phnom Penh, Dec 29 (IANS) Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Tuesday that the country’s first community outbreak of the novel coronavirus was over after no locally transmitted cases was reported in the last two weeks.
The first community outbreak was confirmed on November 28 after six people of a family, who reside in both capital Phnom Penh and Siem Reap province, tested positive for the virus, Xinhua news agency reported.
However, the origin of their infection has not been identified so far.
Approximately 19,000 people linked to the outbreak had been tested, and 41 of them were positive for the virus.
