NEW YORK CITY A years-long low number of inmates in New York City s jails during the pandemic didn t keep costs and violence down, according to a new report.
In fact, taxpayers ending up paying 30 percent more per inmate over fiscal year 2020 a span that also saw a nearly-identical rise in violence within jails. The aide, who the TU has agreed not to identify, said she was summoned to the Executive Mansion to help him with an issue on his cell phone. They were alone in the governor s residence at the time and she immediately told him to stop, she said. She said that he had been generally flirtatious and handsy with her in the past.

NEW YORK Eric Adams is on track to have another major labor union in his corner.
The Democratic mayoral candidate earned a nod Wednesday from DC37’s executives, who will recommend to rank-and-file members that Adams be endorsed.
DC37 is the city’s largest municipal workers union, boasting 200,000 members.
“I am truly honored by and appreciate the DC37 Executive Board’s vote of confidence because they represent the people who make this city work,” Adams said in a statement. “And because I am the son of a DC37 member who worked hard every day to provide for her children.”

NEW YORK CITY A prominent New York City politician launched a run for the city s comptroller position.
City Council Speaker Corey Johnson on Tuesday announced his candidacy for the comptroller spot during a sunny event at Madison Square Park. I will be a strong and independent comptroller who uses all the powers of the office to kick-start New York s recovery, he said.

Johnson, a Democrat with a wide progressive following, previously had been considered a front runner for Mayor Bill de Blasio s job at Gracie Mansion.
