SIU recovers R126m from dodgy PPE tenders 5 February 2021 1:27 PM Share This: The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is updating South Africans on its probe into dodgy personal protective equipment (PPE) tenders. SIU head, Advocate Andy Mothibi, is releasing finalised reports into allegations of PPE corruption by state institutions. The SIU has so far recovered more than R126 million in illegal PPE contracts. In total, the SIU says it s received 189 tender irregularities linked to PPE contracts nationally amounting to R30.7 billion between April and November 2020. Karam Singh, the Head of Legal and Investigations at Corruption Watch, says the progress made by the SIU is encouraging.

Western Cape has second highest UIF Ters corruption cases By Sisonke Mlamla Share Cape Town - The Corruption Watch report on Covid-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (Ters) corruption at work revealed that the Western Cape has the second-highest cases of alleged corruption. According to the 126 reported cases of alleged Ters corruption identified in the report, Gauteng recorded 57 cases, followed by Western Cape 15 and KwaZulu-Natal 12. With the big metropolitan municipalities, the City of Joburg leads the way with 30, followed by the City of Tshwane 18, City of Cape Town 14 and eThekwini 9. Ters was introduced during the national hard lockdown as one of a range of economic stimulus measures in response to the Covid-19 epidemic, with its purpose to provide support to employees whose possibility for work or providing services were curtailed during lockdown, as stipulated by the disaster regulations, under which only certain industry sectors and workers were regarded as
