Aug 3, 2021 “Speak Up” on Climate Change: Enter Caribbean Art Contest Belizeans of all ages are invited to enter a regional art competition. Today, McNab Design Limited and the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre announced the “Speak Up” Campaign, aimed at boosting the voice of the Caribbean on climate change.  The release says that as a combination of island states and coastal territories, the Caribbean is a vulnerable region, especially with the heavy reliance on tourism and nature-based economies.  Anyone over the age of three is invited to submit original artwork that answers the questions: “How has climate change affected me? What is my message to the world on Caribbean climate change?” Four winning artists will each get a cash prize of three hundred US dollars.  Entries are due by August thirty-first and you must include a photo of yourself and your artwork to the competition website: www.mcnabvisual.com/climate-change-cariforum

Today, the white sand beach is crowded with heavy trucks and around it the land is denuded of trees as diggers level part of the mangrove forest to make way for a new US$550mil (RM2.3bil) resort project. “It is a beautiful property. It is heartbreaking to see what is being done, ” said Grizzle Roumel, a director of the beach resort town of Negril’s Chamber of Commerce.
