SKNVibes | CARICOM Girls in ICT partnership holds virtual events for Girls in ICT Day 2021

(CARICOM), Press Release April 20th, 2021 Several agencies, as well as regional and international organisations operating in the Caribbean are collaborating to host events to observe Girls in ICT Day this year. The Day will be observed primarily virtually this year under the international theme ‘Connected Girls, Creating Brighter Futures’.   The CARICOM Girls in ICT partnership Steering Committee is hosting the virtual events via Zoom (Meeting ID: 924 4826 3625; PASSCODE: 406634) and Facebook Live on the CARICOM page will be held around an adapted theme, ‘Connecting CARICOM Girls; Creating Brighter Futures”.    A panel of speakers on the day itself, Thursday, 22 April 2021, comprises girls and women who are influencers and practitioners in the information and communication technology field. Discussants during the virtual event from 10 am to 2pm will be:

Barbadian Rodney Taylor appointed CTU secretary-general

Article by Social Share Port of Spain – Barbadian technology expert Rodney Taylor has been appointed Secretary-General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) after a public, Caribbean-wide recruitment process, the organisation said on Monday. Taylor, whose appointment took effect on Monday, is the first Barbadian national substantively appointed to head the CTU in its 32-year history. He was previously seconded to the CTU between June 2010 and August 2014 to work as its business development and operations manager, in a role that saw him working with regional governments in the development of policies to govern information and communications technology (ICT). This involved leading the work to operationalise the CTU’s Caribbean Centre of Excellence, to offer consultancy services to member states, and representing the region in many international ICT conferences.

CTU, Press Release Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (22nd December 2020) – At a Special Meeting of the General Conference of Ministers of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) on 21st December 2020, Ministers and many invited guests took the opportunity pay tribute to a true Caribbean stalwart, Ms. Bernadette Lewis, who held the position of Secretary General for seventeen years.   Under her leadership, the CTU’s mission and mandate for telecommunications was expanded to include information and communication technologies (ICT) and its membership broadened to include private sector and civil society organisations. The CTU became a multi-stakeholder organisation and is now at the forefront of activities to harmonise policies and practices for the development of the Caribbean ICT sector. It also established a demonstrated track record for the successful coordination of regional ICT Projects.
