Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson, has highlighted that some 400,000 Jamaicans are food challenged, a situation made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Robinson, who was making his contribution to the 2021/22 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Thursday, also highlighted that the Jamaican economy had been on the verge of recession prior to the country confirming its first case of the coronavirus on March 10 last year.
“The data shows that the Jamaican economy suffered three consecutive quarters of negative growth starting in July 2019 to March 2020 when the first case of COVID-19 was reported.
