Since the United States presidential elections on November 3, won by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, various fora in the Caribbean have been assessing what the new administration will mean for the region.
The Gleaner editorial of November 24, titled ‘CARICOM reset on relations with US’, called for member states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to be prepared to engage with the Biden-Harris administration to have its issues addressed. The Gleaner suggested that CARICOM should utilise the back channels it has in Washington, DC, such as the diaspora, members of the new administration with Caribbean heritage, and members of Congress.
Examining the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative Authorization Act

TACOMA, Washington The Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) Authorization Act was first instituted in 2009 to create safer communities in Caribbean nations targeted by drug trafficking. The H.R. 7703 bill was introduced to authorize appropriations for the initiative, to implement disaster resilience strategies and to strengthen the security partnership between the United States and the Caribbean nations.

American Foreign Policy in the English-Speaking Caribbean is an admirable and ambitious effort to cover U.S. foreign policy in the English-speaking Caribbean from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century. The book is well-written, concise, and packs a lot of information into its 134 pages. The author recently earned her Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Miami and is a Lecturer at the Trinidad and Tobago Police Training Academy as well as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of the West Indies. This is her first book.

The Reformation of the Belize Police Training Academy
The Belize Police Department was the recipient of equipment to enhance the training of officers which was handed over by U.S. Chargé d’affaires, Keith Gilges. The U.S. Government is also providing a curriculum advisor who will work closely with the police academy to develop curriculum. This initiative is part of a CARSI-supported in-service training project, in which the U.S. Embassy agreed to provide a Curriculum Development Advisor for three years and to procure and install two stationary podiums and one portable system.
