SPRINGVALE – Bruce C. Carlson Sr., of Springvale, passed away peacefully and with his family by his side on Sunday, July 11, 2021 in Cape Elizabeth, at the age of 84.Bruce was born on July 26, 1936 in Biddeford to Clarence and Thelma (Lanoue) Carlson. He grew up in Saco, Limerick, Goodwins Mills, and Springvale. He attended Sanford High School (class of ’56) and went on to attend the University of Southern Maine/Gorham State Teachers’ College where he graduated with a B.S. in Education. He was a proud alumnus of both the Alpha Lambda Beta and Phi Mu Delta fraternities and served as an alumni advisor for many decades.While in college, Bruce met Eleanor Rebecca Hodgkins of Southwest Harbor and they were married on April 22, 1961 at Notre Dame Church in Springvale. WATERBORO – Richard “Rick” Brandt, 73, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 17, 2021, at Maine Medical Center after a period of declining health.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1947, in Sanford to Otto C. and Audrey (Goodwin) Brandt.
Rick grew up with his many close cousins in Waterboro Center spending time on his grandfather’s farm, hunting, fishing, and playing on the very first little league team in Waterboro.
Rick graduated from Sanford High School in 1965. In September of 1966, he joined the National Guard leaving service in 1972. He pursued and completed an apprenticeship program at GTE Sylvania in Waterboro. In November of 1972, he married the love of his life, Nancy Daney, and together they raised two girls.

PORTLAND – Robert J. Gagnon, 90, of Sanford, died on Friday, May 7, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Residence in Portland.
Robert was born in Canada on Nov. 27, 1930, to Albert and Delianne (Guillemette) Gagnon. When he was young his family relocated to Sanford where he was raised. In 1953 he married Theresa Bernier and together they raised two children and shared nearly 67 years of marriage. During his working life he was employed for several years at the mills in Sanford before taking a position as a custodian at Emerson School where he was employed for 22 years until his retirement. During his retirement he continued to work for several years as a fill in custodian whenever he was needed.

SANFORD – Ruth A. Burleigh, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 at the Kennebunk Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born on Feb. 19, 1932 to Andrew and Delta (Libby) Duprey in Sherman, Maine where her grandmother lived. She grew up in Sanford and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School class of 1950.
Within weeks of graduation she eloped to South Carolina and married Earnest Burleigh. Together they had four children.
She was mainly a homemaker, but was employed as a poll worker in Kennebunk which she enjoyed. In her younger years she loved to listen to her husband play in his band, “Ernie and the Country Squires”. More recently she loved reading and would read anything she could get on her Kindle.
