Community votes comprise 30% of the final decision plus input of the SXSW Staff (30%) and Advisory Board (40%). Together these percentages helped to determine the final content lineup. Proposals ranged from music and film to tech and culture and more across our 2021 Themes. Sessions that are part of today’s announcement include top-level speakers from notable companies, universities, and creative industries including Billboard, Condé Nast, UT Austin, and many more.

In a digital age of scrolling, pairing and ghosting, surely identity has never been so complicated, right? Possibly. But photographer Alexandra Leese is proving that we might be seriously underestimating the role that gender stigmatisation plays both in human relationship and image-making itself. Born in Hong Kong to a Chinese mother and an English father, she discovered photography during her foundation year at Chelsea College of Art and Design, followed by a BA in fashion photography at the London College of Fashion.  Drenched with soul-filled landscapes (I kid you not), it has been a year of reflection for Leese, whose visual grounding is stamped across identity and intimacy. “It’s been the year of introspection, which can be a difficult process,” she freely admits, “but it allowed me to gain a better sense of who I am and therefore what work I want to be creating.
