Community colleges across the state now have the ability to provide the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s (UIUC) innovative, saliva-based COVID-19 test at no cost to any state resident who wants one.
The testing will be funded through an agreement between the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and SHIELD Illinois, the University of Illinois System unit that is deploying the test throughout the state.
Under the agreement, the state’s 49 community colleges can test their own students and staff, and can choose to serve as community testing sites where any Illinois resident can get a free test.

BHE s Golby scholarship gets a boost
Black Hawk College East Foundation
Ten years ago, the family of Barbara J. Curran Golby decided to honor her memory by establishing an annual scholarship for students who are studying to be certified nursing assistants or CNAs.
Recently, family members decided to make additional contributions so that the scholarship through the Black Hawk College East Foundation would be endowed.
“That way, the scholarship, and our mother’s memory, will live on for many years and help those who need it,” said her son, Marty Golby.
The new, endowed Barbara J. Curran Golby Memorial Healthcare Scholarship is a $500 award available to students in the college’s Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program as well as nursing students.

Vibrant Health to open in Cambridge

Dr. Crystal Strode is another step closer to having a “home of her own” for her clinic, Vibrant Health, in Cambridge.
A groundbreaking was held on March 22 at 213 North Prospect St. in Cambridge, for construction of a building to house Vibrant Health. Dr. Strode said plans are to be open for clients in July, “pending weather conditions and contractors”
Dr. Strode had been working for another chiropractor in Kewanee until 2019 when she opened her business in Feb. of 2019 in Cambridge. ”Opening my own business was a huge blessing,” she said. “I love being my own boss and doing things the way I think are best.”
