Residents in one housing estate in Galway have employed private clampers, to deter motorists from parking in their area.
People living on the private Seamount estate in Salthill took the decision after drivers kept parking outside their homes when visiting the village.
Local Fine Gael Councillor Clodagh Higgins
told Lunchtime Live hundreds of parking spaces along the promenade were recently closed off. A housing estate - Seamount housing estate - which is just off Threadneedle Road, it s approximately 100 metres form Blackrock Diving Tower and the promenade, they ve taken measures into their own hands by employing clampers. This obviously is going to have further consequences for other estates in the area, as it will no doubt push people into those estates - thus creating health and safety issues.

Amidst the recent boom in open-water swimming, there has been much talk about dryrobe wars allegedly happening across South Dublin. As comedian Oliver Callan recently remarked, it had previously only been eccentrics and Protestants who ever braved the cold Irish waters. Now, we have new tribes, characterized respectively as ‘vigilante regulars’ and ‘Class A Trendies’ wearing dryrobes, clashing at the 40 Foot and beyond. The alleged spat has been covered locally and abroad to much hilarity all round.

Galway City Council has announced the closure of a number of amenities across the city to help curb the spread of Covid-19 following a request from Gardaí.
The Blackrock Diving Tower, all parking along the Salthill Promenade and vehicle access to Silverstrand beach in Barna are all affected by yesterday’s statement from the local authority.
In addition, all Community Centres, Tennis Courts, All-Weather Pitches and the local Boxing Club have also been closed.
St Nicholas Market has been restricted to food only stalls.
However, the City Council has said that all parks, woodlands and beaches will remain open to locals.
