Spectra Venue Management, the firm which runs the Alerus Center, is presenting the “Saving Our Jobs Virtual Comedy Festival,” with live comedy performances from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.
Tickets, which may be purchased here, are $20 to watch live on Feb. 14 or $40 to watch the show on demand for up to one year.
Comedians from throughout the United States and Canada are participating in the festival. They include Adam Yenser, Emmy Award-winning comedy writer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show; Alex Elkin, iTunes No. 6 Comedian; Just Rupple, who is seen on Black Entertainment Television’s “One Mic Stand; Ron Josol, who’s appeared on Kevin Hart’s “Laugh Out Loud; and Tashona Smith, whom The New York Times has called “charming, tantalizing … confusing.”

On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, died in a helicopter crash. The next day, a Black assistant for Comedy Central s in-house creative team was still reeling from the news. I could barely get on the subway, she said. I was crying and honestly really shouldn t have gone in to work that day.

To mark Black History Month in February, the African American Student Services at The University of New Mexico has slated a series of virtual events. The theme for this semester is the arts, according to AASS director Brandi Stone, and the focus is on music in February. The calendar of events is designed to look like a Spotify playlist to reflect the musical theme.
Flag raising, Monday, Feb. 1
The month’s events will kick off with a virtual flag-raising ceremony. The event will take place and videoed on campus following COVID-safe practices and then posted on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.

Kim Jones enlisted some of the biggest names in fashion for his haute couture debut at Fendi this afternoon, as part of Haute Couture Fashion Week.
For those wondering about the distinction, haute couture refers to an extremely exclusive and expensive substratum of high fashion. Translated literally from French, it means “high dressmaking,” and the pieces are created as one-off designs for specific clients where they can fetch for up to millions and millions of dollars. The Wall Street Journal estimates there are a few thousand haute couture clients globally, including Queen Rania of Jordan and Debra Lee, former chairwoman of Black Entertainment Television.
