An amazing father of four was stabbed multiple times in the stomach after trying to stop a gang from harassing a homeless man, an inquest has heard.
James Gibbons, 34, was found lying unconscious in Iris Mews, Laindon in Essex on May 2 after celebrating his twin daughters second birthday in his garden.
The self-employed plumber was discovered with multiple stab wounds as paramedics rushed to save him, an Essex inquest has heard.
But the inquest into Mr Gibbons death has been suspended, after a teenager was confirmed as the lone defendant in the murder trial.
A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was last week charged with the murder of Gibbo and faced Chelmsford Crown Court this morning.

Police were called with reports of a man having been attacked in Iris Mews, shortly after 9.30pm on Sunday (May 2) - When officers arrived they found a man had been stabbed. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the man sadly died.
Murder probe - James Gibbons A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of father-of-four James Gibbons in Laindon, police revealed tonight. Mr Gibbons, 34, was stabbed in Iris Mews at around 9.30pm on Sunday. A post-mortem found that Mr Gibbons, 34, had died from stab wounds, Essex Police said. Mr Gibbons had spent the day celebrating his two-year-old twin daughters’ birthday. Despite the efforts of medics and police officers, he died at the scene. A post-mortem examination found he had died from stab wounds. Essex Police believe he had come to the aid of another man at the time. Tonight, police revealed the latest on the murder probe.

A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with murdering a Good Samaritan father-of-four, 34. Amazing James Gibbons was killed when he interrupted his twin daughters birthday barbecue to give a homeless man leftovers, witnesses said.
Mr Gibbons, a plumber known locally as Gibbo, was stabbed on an estate dubbed Alcatraz in Laindon, Essex, at around 9.30pm on Sunday.
Police believe he died after attempting to go to the aid of another man , as friends claim he chased a group away from the rough sleeper.
The teenager - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was remanded in custody following today s brief hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates Court.
