The Bell family have lodged plans with Hambleton District Council to create a sculpture park and gallery featuring works by internationally acclaimed artists in the grounds and buildings of grade II listed Thirsk Hall, their ancestral home for the last 300 years. The sculpture park, set in the 20-acre site, aims to include further major examples of monumental sculpture by artists of international fame and create a collection available to view by the public, adding to area’s tourist attractions.

A NEW traffic detection system to warn of congestion at Sutton Bank is now in operation. The steep Sutton Bank sees highway teams deal with a yearly average of 120 blockages by HGVs and around 400 lorries suffer problems there. The introduction of an advance warning system will not only inform road users of blockages on the route, but will also warn of snow and ice. Two interactive signs are now live on Long Street in Thirsk and the A168/A19 roundabout to warn motorists about any disruption on the bank. Councillor Gareth Dadd contributed £5,000 from his locality budget to fund the signs and Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe Parish Council provided £1,000.
