Carreras, established in 1962, imports tobacco and distributes cigarettes. It is also a dealer in items used by smokers such as lighters, rolling paper shavers and razors. The company is 50 per cent owned by Jamaican shareholders with the remainder held by British American Tobacco PLC. Cigarette distributor Carreras is seeking to transform its portfolio by adding new products and possibly serving as a distributor for other companies.   Several companies (Procter and Gamble included) are approaching Carreras because of its strong distribution model, according to Managing Director Raoul Glynn. Procter and Gamble sells a wide range of household products. “Many other suppliers want to piggyback on our strong distribution footprint. We are building stronger partnerships such as with wholesales which are entering areas where we can’t,” Glynn said.
