Following the court appearance, Self s brother, Monty Self, said the hearing brought some closure to the family. It s been a very difficult, almost three years, but our family s strong, and our faith in God is very strong, Monty Self said. We continue just to walk forward.
Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Mount Holly

Mount Holly Police are investigating a Friday night hit and run that sent one man to the hospital.
According to Mount Holly Chief of Police Don Roper, a motorist found a pedestrian lying lying in the road on N.C. 27 near Globe Street and called the police at around 11 p.m.
The man, whose name has not been released, was transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. Would say it was serious injuries, but I am not sure what his status is today, said Roper on Saturday. He is still in the hospital.

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A man was shot in the leg and arrested following a police chase in Gaston County early Thursday morning.
The incident began around 2:09 a.m. when a Bessemer City Police officer tried to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation on North 12th Street. Police say the driver, identified as 43-year-old Billy Jack Barker, refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.
Officers at Gaston County Police Department were called to service by residents 40,707 times in 2020.
The department covers roughly 270 square-miles of unincorporated areas with Gaston County and serves about 90,000 residents, though Gaston County Police’s Criminal Investigations Unit and K9 units regularly assist other local police departments.
Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement, a division of the police department, handles animal-related calls for all of Gaston County’s municipalities. The division also houses and cares for animals brought to the animal shelter on Wren Turnpike in Gastonia.
Of those 40,707 calls in 2020, Gaston County Police officers responded to some locations more than others, including several apartment complexes and private homes, Dollar General in south Gastonia, The Barnyard Flea Market in Dallas and North Gaston High School.

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. Newly-obtained court documents have shed light on what, investigators believe, were the moments leading up to Mount Holly Police Officer Tyler Herndon s death last month.
According to unsealed search warrants, Mount Holly Police officers arrived at Mount Holly Car Wash around 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 11 to investigate a reported breaking and entering.
