Hackney LBC chief executive
Tim Shields is to retire at the end of May after more than 40 years working in local government.
An accountant by background, Mr Shields joined Hackney in 2002 as corporate director of finance and resources and has been chief executive since 2007. Prior to joining Hackney he held roles at Wandsworth and Lambeth LBCs as well as Epsom & Ewell BC.
During his time at Hackney, the council has moved from being one of the most poorly performing in the country to one of the best and was voted LGC’s Council of the Past 20 years in 2016.
Recruitment for Mr Shields successor will begin soon.

Education minister Vicky Ford paid a virtual visit to Beaumont Academy, Darlington STAFF at a North-East school for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) have been discussing provision with a Government minister. Vicky Ford, the minister for children, young people and families paid Beaumont Hill Academy, Darlington, a virtual visit to hear about life under lockdown and coping with the pandemic. The MP and a parliamentary under-secretary of state in the Department for Education, who is overseeing a national review of SEND provision, spent time talking to senior management at the school, which is part of the Education Village, and the trust’s chief executive.
Coroner investigating railroad death in Tupelo
The Lee County coroner s office is investigating a death involving Kansas City Southern railroad that happened Wednesday morning in Tupelo.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) The Lee County coroner s office is investigating a death involving Kansas City Southern railroad that happened Wednesday morning in Tupelo.
Emergency responders showed up around 7 a.m. to some railroad tracks in the area of North Mississippi Medical Center.
Coroner Carolyn Green described what happened as an on the job injury with death.
She plans to release the name of the person who died once the family knows.
