COLUMBUS, Ohio – Penn State scored multiple runs in four innings and received a fine relief pitching performance to win the third and final game of this three-game series with Ohio State, 10-6. Ohio State is now 15-13 on the season while Penn State improves to 9-18.
Ohio State was seeking a second consecutive sweep of a Big Ten series after defeating Indiana all four games three weeks ago at Bill Davis Stadium. Penn State, which had been beaten 11-6 and 7-0 by Ohio State Friday and Saturday, took the lead for good in the seventh inning, 8-6 and added two insurance runs in support of reliever Mason Mellott, who pitched 4.0 innings of two-hit, shutout baseball to get the win and even his record at 5-5.
