MANGALURU: When a family of four in Sullia was banned from drawing water from their neighbour’s well after one of them tested positive and the rest were in home quarantine, Mahesh Puchchappady, a journalist from Sullia, rushed to their rescue, making arrangements to ensure they received potable water.
Puchchappady said the family lives in a house located in SC Colony in Ballakka, Guttigar gram panchayat. One member tested positive and the results of three others are pending. Their neighbour’s well has been their water source for years. The colony has about five houses.

BENGALURU: Karnataka on Sunday reported the highest-ever single-day Covid-19 deaths 626 breaching the previous record of 596 reported on May 10, even as the number of fresh positive cases continued to decline. The total death count topped the 25,000 mark, more than 11,000 of which were in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru accounted for 362 of the day’s deaths, but it’s not a record for a single day. According to the state health bulletin, Karnataka saw 25,979 fresh cases, including 7,494 in Bengaluru, and 35,573 discharges, including 12,407 in the capital. Active cases stood at more than 4.7 lakh and 2.5 lakh, respectively.
By the end of Sunday, the state had more than 24.2 lakh cumulative cases, the second most in the country, and 25,282 deaths which puts Karnataka only behind Maharashtra

HUBBALLI: The Dharwad district administration and Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) are leaving no stone unturned to break the chain of spread of the novel coronavirus. The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has decided to seal areas where Covid-19 cases are found in large numbers. It has sealed five areas in Dharwad, and contact tracing of patients in Hubballi-Dharwad is under process. The number of sealed areas is expected to rise, even in Hubballi.
According to sources in the HDMC, Barakotri, Tejaswi Nagar, Chaitanya Nagar, Malamaddi and Siddheshwar Nagar were sealed on Sunday, as Covid-19 cases are on the rise there.

MANGALURU: A well-known physician who has done extensive work on Covid courted controversy when he walked into a supermarket here on Tuesday without a facemask and refused to wear one despite requests by a store manager. He defended his action, saying he has been treating Covid patients for a year and questioned the rationale behind the government’s guidelines in this regard.
Following a complaint by the store, Mangaluru police have booked a case against Dr Bevinje Srinivas Kakkilaya under the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act, 2020. Medical associations have criticized the physician for the incident.
