KSOU to conduct mega online Job Mela in two months: VC

Mysore/Mysuru: Stating that the city-based Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year, Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Vidyashankar said that  KSOU will be organising a massive  online ‘Udyoga Mela’ (Job Fair) within two months.He was speaking at the inauguration of 3-day online induction programme for newly admitted students in 2020-21 (August batch) in Muktagangothri campus  here this morning. Pointing out that the Government of Karnataka has enacted an Act that recognises KSOU as the only State-run University to offer distance education courses, Prof. Vidyashankar said that KSOU was established in 1996. Noting that the University adopted digital learning one-and-a-half-years ago, the VC highlighted that KSOU has crossed many hurdles, including de-recognition of its courses by the UGC, in the 25 years of its journey.

State will implement NEP in current year: Minister

In the last cycle (admissions from July 2020), more than 18,000 students took admissions to 35-plus courses and the entire process happened online, with the university bringing in reforms in admissions and examination procedures for the benefit of the students, besides making it transparent.

M G Krishnan passes away - The Hindu

Krishnan, 70, former vice-chancellor, who taught political science for over 35 years at Bangalore University, passed away after a brief illness in the city on Saturday. Hailing from Mandya district, Mr. Krishnan did his undergraduate studies in Mysuru and later joined Bangalore University for Masters. He immediately joined as a teacher after his course. He later was appointed as V-C, Karnataka State Open University, Mysuru, in 2013, a charge he held for three years. His tenure was dogged by controversies. “As a professor of political science, he was keen to bridge the gap between academics and the practice of politics. He wished for practising politicians to have a deep knowledge of the Constitution, law and the system at large. He encouraged many of us to do academic work. He was not only my Ph.D guide, but also motivated me to take up academic work,” said B.L. Shankar, former chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council.
