BENGALURU: Although mental illnesses effect millions of people the world over, mental health had little to no presence in the state budget presented on Monday.The only two instances of allocation for mental well-being was in the announcement that the Dharwad Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences would be developed at a cost of Rs 75 crore, and a centre of excellence proposed to be set up at the Reforms Institute Campus on Hosur Road in collaboration with NIMHANS and the National Law School of India University to assist women subjected to atrocities.
A psychiatrist from the Indian Medical Association in Karnataka, who did not wish to be named, said that 1 in 4 people have mental health issues, which calls for higher budgetary allocation to provide treatment and awareness.“For instance, mental illnesses are more common in women. BENGALURU: Amid a severe fund crunch and the burden of additional loans, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday presented the State’s first budget post the pandemic impact, with a total outlay of Rs 2,46,207 crore. The budget size is Rs 8,314 crore more than the previous year.
In a first for Karnataka in decades, Yediyurappa presented a revenue-deficit budget with the deficit pegged at Rs 15,133.60 crore for 2021-2022. As reported earlier by The New Indian Express, revised estimates for the fiscal year 2020-21 showed that the pandemic-hit year also is set to end in a revenue deficit of Rs 19,485.84 crore.

Bengaluru: On the occasion of International Women s Day, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa gave a big gift to the women employees of the state government. The state government has announced a six-month leave for child care for its female employees. The announcement was made by Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa while presenting the budget for 2021-22 in the Assembly.
Presenting the budget, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that the two main government offices located in each district centre will be opened for the care of such children. Along with this, he announced a grant of Rs 37,188 crore for women-centric programs.

Bengaluru gets allocated ₹7,795 crore funds for comprehensive development
The Karnataka Budget for 2021-22 is being presented in the State legislature today.
This is the BJP government’s second full-fledged Budget in this term. The Budget is presented amidst severe financial difficulties faced by the State owing to COVID-19.
Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who also holds the finance portfolio, has held several Budget-related meetings with Ministers and officials of various departments.
