CAG report finds lapses in power sector PSUs in Karnataka

AAA The Comptroller and Auditor General of India report, tabled in the Assembly on Wednesday, has found many lapses in the functioning of power sector PSUs in Karnataka. According to it, six PSUs incurred a loss of ₹2,928.68 crore in the year ending 2019.
The major PSUs that saw losses were Raichur Power Corporation Ltd. (₹1,251.3 crore), Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. (₹992.06 crore), Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Ltd. (₹209.35 crore), and Gulbarga Electric Supply Company Ltd. (₹472.63 crore). Five PSUs earned a profit, with the major contributors being Hubli Electricity Supply Company Ltd. (₹690 crore) and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (₹212.14 crore).
Four arrested over murder of KPTCL worker

AAA The Hassan police have arrested four people in connection with the murder of an employee of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL), which came to light on Saturday. The accused include the victim’s brother-in-law.
Superintendent of Police R. Srinivasa Gowda, at a press conference in Hassan on Monday, said the accused shot Santhosh, junior assistant with the KPTCL, after inviting him to a party near Huvinahalli Kaval last Friday. The accused are Anukul, 41, of Madikeri, Sudin Kumar, 30, of Alur taluk, Suresh, 36, and Sathish H.B. of Madikeri. Kumar is the brother-in-law of Santhosh and is allegedly the one who hatched the conspiracy for the murder.

Officials coming unprepared on subjects related to their department listed on the agenda of the quarterly review meeting of Karnataka Development Programmes (KDP) faced the ire of Deputy Chief Minister and Kalaburagi district in-charge Minister Govind Karjol here on Friday.
Questioning National Rural Drinking Water Project (NRDWP) officer Azizuddin about total mini water supply schemes, piped water supply schemes and hand pumps in the district, the Minister charged the officer with failing to provide details of defunct and working water schemes. The government had earmarked ₹ 1,757 lakh for 203 works, of which 172 works were completed by spending ₹ 1,116.24 lakh.
