AAA Pointing out that violation of COVID-19 norms notified under the provisions of the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases (KED) Act, 2020 are cognisable and non-bailable in nature, the High Court of Karnataka on Thursday directed the Director-General and Inspector General of Police to ensure that the police register First Information Reports (FIR) when instances of such violations are brought to their notice.
The Court also directed the DG&IGP to constitute a team of senior police officers to educate the police on effective enforcement of laws to prevent spread of COVID-19, and monitor the registration of FIRs and the investigation in cases of violations like not wearing masks, failure to maintain social distancing, and violation of norms for large congregations.

Bengaluru: In the wake of rising cases in Bengaluru, the city police on Wednesday banned the use of swimming pools, gyms, party halls, and other similar activities in residential complexes, news agency ANI reported. Prohibit operation of amenities like Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Party Halls in apartment/residential complexes in Bengaluru City the order reads. Also, Section 144 of the CrPC will be imposed in the city from today.
On Tuesday, the Bengaluru police Commissioner Kamal Pant issued a prohibitory order on rallies, demonstrations, public gatherings, functions and group prayers.
