A Cambridge resident facing a felony rape charge entered a negotiated plea to a lesser sex offense Tuesday in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court.
Derrick L. Stevens, 26, plead guilty to one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony, after the first-degree felony indictment previously returned against him by a grand jury was amended by prosecutors.
Defense attorney Jack Blakeslee did not object to the amendment and Stevens will be sentenced on March 18.
According to court records, Stevens was indicted last May for the alleged offense more than a year earlier on May 4, 2019.
A pre-sentence investigation report was ordered by the court prior to the sentencing hearing. Bond for Stevens was continued at $5,000, as previously posted, and personal recognizance.
