Matthew Gyles to serve 24 months in prison after violating probation The Daily Jeffersonian A Salesville man was recently ordered to serve the balance of a 24-month prison after violating the terms of community control sanctions imposed nearly three years ago in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. Matthew D. Gyles, 44, received 180 days credit for time previously served after initially being indicted on two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, fourth-degree felonies. Gyles was one of four people sentenced to various terms of incarceration last week during hearings in the common pleas court. Gyles plead guilty to the trafficking offenses on Jan. 8, 2018, and was sentenced to 24 months in prison on March 3 of the same year. The prison sentence was suspended in favor of three years of community control sanctions.

Ronald Wolters – Photo: GCSO CAMBRIDGE, Ohio A Buffalo man has been found guilty of sex crimes involving children after a seven day jury trial in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. 52-year-old Ronald Wolters was convicted of three counts of Rape and eight counts of Gross Sexual Imposition on Wednesday. The victim of each count was a minor child under the age of 10. A sentencing hearing for Wolters, presided by Judge Daniel G. Padden, will take place on Wednesday, April 7th. Guernsey County Prosecuting Attorney Lindsey Angler thanked the jury for their verdict, saying “It sends a clear message that kids in Guernsey County will be believed, and we are committed to prosecuting these cases fully. Two waive preliminary hearings, cases sent to higher court The Daily Jeffersonian Two people facing unrelated felony drug charges waived their rights to preliminary hearings last week in the Cambridge Municipal Court. As a result, the cases against Odonshae M. Turner, 21, Garfield Heights, and Cynthia A. Sadler, 57, Evans City, Pa., were bound over to the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. Turner faces single counts of aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony; burglary, a second-degree felony; and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a first-degree felony, stemming from two unrelated incidents in Cambridge. The possession charge was filed by Guernsey County sheriff s deputies on Feb. 24 following a traffic stop on East Wheeling Avenue. Turner was one of three men charged with drug and weapons charges in connection with the stop.

Man accused of stealing guns from deceased owner enters guilty pleas The Daily Jeffersonian A man accused of stealing a half-dozen firearms from a Cambridge resident less than 24 hours after the gun owner died will be sentenced for his crimes on May 6 in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court. Joseph S. Nicholson, 26, Cambridge, entered negotiated guilty pleas to single counts of grand theft (property is a firearm or dangerous ordnance), a third-degree felony; violation of fireworks manufacture prohibition, a third-degree felony; and breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony. He was one of several individuals who recently appeared for criminal hearings in the common pleas court.
