The hydrogen paste – it sounds really cool, but unfortunately, the blow comes in the last sentence. The annual production of a new plant they are building will be 4 tonnes/year. US alone consumes > 3000litres (which is ~3t) of gas. Per person. So the output of the factory would suffice for one person in the US. Yes, they will be able to scale. But the scale they need is hundreds of millions times more, more likely more than billion times more. I hope to be wrong, but I just can’t see how they could scale so much even in a decade or two.

Brexit: Wheels Coming Off | naked capitalism

We’ve been quiet about Brexit because so many things have been happening on other fronts, and truth be told, because reporting has been thin. That isn’t necessarily due to a lack of newsworthy developments but that getting a good picture would involve things like interviewing haulers and farmers or at least their trade associations, and that means developing new sources, which equals work. But even adverse outcomes for the City are getting surprisingly little notice. Some of that may be Brexit fatigue. But many UK businesses are making surprisingly little noise relative to the pain they are suffering. Is that because they recognize or have been told that the Government simply is not going to petition the EU for waivers any time soon, so they are not wasting the few chips they have?

A Mini-Tour of Christmas/Holiday Feasts and Traditions

My father is Danish/American (grew up in Danish midwestern community speaking Danish with Danish parents/grandparents) and always insisted presents were opened on Christmas Eve in Denmark. I cannot verify this is true in real Denmark, but that is what he leaned from parents/grandparents. Irrational The Danes have their main meal on the 24th in the evening. Traditionally , you start with warm “risengrød”, probably best described as rice pudding, served with butter and cinnamon sugar. A whole almond will be hidden in one of the portions and whoever finds the almond gets a present (a “mandelgave”). This would make sure that people would eat as much as possible of the risengrød and less of the main course, which is traditionally duck or goose with assorted veggies.

Unreported boom– It made me chuckle a little. Here on the East Side, all kinds of interesting events go unreported. It’s doubtful that our local TV or shell of a newspaper will report that back-and-forth gunfight that took place last night within a block or two. It wasn’t as loud as a few years back when two guys armed with an AK and a 9 mm (according to the cops we watched pick up the shell casings from the street 15 feet from my BR) when it was like someone was pounded the walls of the house with a sledge hammer, but it was second only to that. Two distinctly different gunfire sounds. Couldn’t tell if either shooter was moving. Don’t ask me what I saw, because all I could tell you was what I saw from the floor. At least the cops did come by and patrol the neighborhood for a while afterward.
