PM Modi to Distribute 1.06 Lakh Land Pattas to Indigenous People of Assam
Assam had 5.75 lakh, landless families, in 2016. The BJP government has distributed 2.28 lakhs land pattas/allotment certificates since May 2016.

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to distribute 1.06 lakh land pattas/allotment certificates to indigenous people of Assam.
Notably, PM Modi who will be in Assam s Sivasagar district will visit Jerenga Pathar, a historical place connected with Assam s erstwhile Ahom kingdom for the distribution ceremony on January 23.
Speaking to media, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that no government in Assam has ever taken such a people-friendly initiative in the past.

A group of Bharatiya Janata Party lawmakers from Assam, including a Lok Sabha member, has submitted a memorandum to the Centre seeking the implementation of Article 244A for the creation of an autonomous State within Assam.
Implementation of Article 244A, which prescribes the formation of an autonomous State comprising certain tribal areas of Assam and creation of local legislature or Council of Ministers, has been a demand across three hill districts Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao since the 1980s.

West Karbi Anglong: In a mass joining program held on Saturday (December 19) at Jaluk-Langteng playground in West Karbi Anglong district of Assam as many as 30 members from the Opposition Lang-Ang village - Congress 4 members, Jaluk-Langteng village Congress 21 members and ASDC 5 members joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The program was organized by BJP s Chinthong Mandal Committee under Lang-Ang and Langteng village local Committee where the 30 members join the BJP party in presence of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council executive member and in-charge of PHE department Prodip Rongpi, Chinthong BJP Mandal Committee president Joysing Bongrum, Chinthong BJP Mandal Committee General Secretary Sarsing Engti, Chinthong Village Development
The BJP, along with its new allies United People’s Party Liberal and Gana Suraksha Party, will head the next Bodoland Territorial Council in Assam after governor Jagdish Mukhi accepted the three-party “post-poll coalition” claim to form the autonomous body on Sunday night.
Although the Bodoland People’s Front emerged as the single largest party winning 17 of the 40 seats despite a stiff challenge from its rivals, its hopes of a fourth straight term fizzled out after the BJP rebuffed BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary’s appeal to support its bid to form the BTC since they were still allies in the state government.
