With all that’s happened in 2020, I’m so grateful for this one-of-a-kind community book club that’s brought us together in such unexpected ways.
This year, on the page and in our live and virtual gatherings, we dived into a pandemic classic as the real-world pandemic hit, rode with the Compton Cowboys as protests filled our streets, swam from Southern California to Iceland and the South China Sea, cooked at home with two California chefs, celebrated a visionary L.A. sci-fi legend, and listened to the inspiring, heartbreaking verse of eight Black poets reeling from injustice and uncertainty.

Step aside, Oprah: Former President Obama has plugged more than two-score films, TV series and books in his annual list of his favorite things.
On the list are a couple of his own projects, including the first installment of his memoir “A Promised Land” and the disability-rights documentary “Crip Camp” from his production company.
Obama acknowledged that streaming has conflated television and film releases, the latter of which have largely been withdrawn from theaters due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Like everyone else, we were stuck inside a lot this year, and with streaming further blurring the lines between theatrical movies and television features, I’ve expanded the list to include visual storytelling that I’ve enjoyed this year, regardless of format,” Obama tweeted on Friday when sharing his choices.

The year is almost about to end and former US President Barack Obama has come up with a list of books that he enjoyed the most this year. Incidentally his memoir,

The former President, in a Twitter post Thursday, highlighted 17 titles including Isabel Wilkerson s Caste, Brit Bennett s The Vanishing Half and C Pam Zhang s How Much of These Hills is Gold. But noticeably absent from the list was his own memoir A Promised Land which was released last month. I ll start by sharing my favourite books this year, deliberately omitting what I think is a pretty good book A Promised Land by a certain 44th president, Obama joked. I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did.
