The Monroe Street Midway, located on Monroe north of Cadillac Square and east of Campus Martius, will feature a roller skating rink, basketball courts and daily entertainment this summer.
Bedrock Detroit this summer will transform the site of a future development in downtown Detroit into an area dedicated for outdoor recreation.
The Monroe Street Midway will open Friday on the site of Bedrock s planned Monroe Blocks development and run until early this fall, Bedrock announced Monday.
Emagine Entertainment acquires historic downtown Birmingham theater

Emagine Entertainment Inc. has acquired Birmingham 8 with plans to reopen the historic theater in the next three months.
Emagine s purchase of the theater, known for running arthouse films and blockbusters alike, gives the Troy-based chain ownership of both theaters in downtown Birmingham and a total of 15 screens. The company took over the Palladium, which is currently open, in 2015.
Closed since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Birmingham 8 will be renamed Birmingham 8, Powered by Emagine. Paul Glantz, chairman of the company, said Emagine bought the business and signed a long-term lease at 211 S. Old Woodward Avenue with property owner Ted Fuller.

Emagine Entertainment, Inc., et. al. v Dep’t of Treasury, Mich App (2020).[1] Emagine operated movie theaters. At issue was whether Emagine’s sales of prepackaged candy constituted the taxable sale of prepared food and whether Emagine had collected the sales tax from its customers on those sales for purposes of its refund claim. As explained further below, the Court of Appeals upheld the Michigan Tax Tribunal, which invalidated part of the Department’s administrative rule that established a standard used to determine when otherwise exempt food is taxed as prepared food based on the seller providing eating utensils to their customers in specific ways. Emagine Entertainment Inc. hasn t been sitting idle while it waits for the state to reopen movie theaters in Michigan.
The Troy-based chain has signed long-term leases for four additional theaters across the Midwest, including one in Saginaw, co-founder and Chairman Paul Glantz said.
