UK-based University of Hull announces a special fee structure for international students for its Masters programmes for the academic session 2021-2022

Share The University of Hull, which is the 14th oldest university in the UK, has announced admissions open for international students for its 2021 academic session, which will commence from September 2021. Since the global economy has been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the University has announced a special fee schedule to ease the financial burden on the international students who would be enrolling for a full-time Masters programme at the University for the academic session 2021-2022.  For this particular session, the University will match fees for international students on Masters degree programmes to UK fees.   The University of Hull’s Masters courses are high quality and the University was given a Silver Award in the UK’s Teaching Excellence Framework in 2018. There are four Faculties at the University under which the various Departments and Schools offer a number of programmes (https://www.hull.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/taught). These Faculties include

Genetic study uncovers hidden pieces of?eye disease?puzzle?

Credit: Community Eye Health (Flickr) Scientists have taken a significant step forward in their search for the origin of a progressive eye condition which causes sight loss and can lead to corneal transplant. A new study into keratoconus by an international team of researchers, including a University of Leeds group led by Chris Inglehearn, Professor of Molecular Ophthalmology in the School of Medicine, has for the first time detected DNA variations which could provide clues as to how the disease develops. Keratoconus causes the cornea, which is?the clear outer layer?at the front of the eye, to thin and bulge outwards into a cone shape over time, resulting in blurred vision and sometimes blindness. It usually emerges in young adulthood, often with lifelong consequences, and affects 1 in 375 people on average, though in some populations this figure is much higher.

A new theory for how memories are stored in the brain

E-Mail Research from the University of Kent has led to the development of the MeshCODE theory, a revolutionary new theory for understanding brain and memory function. This discovery may be the beginning of a new understanding of brain function and in treating brain diseases such as Alzheimer s. In a paper published by Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, Dr Ben Goult from Kent s School of Biosciences describes how his new theory views the brain as an organic supercomputer running a complex binary code with neuronal cells working as a mechanical computer. He explains how a vast network of information-storing memory molecules operating as switches is built into each and every synapse of the brain, representing a complex binary code. This identifies a physical location for data storage in the brain and suggests memories are written in the shape of molecules in the synaptic scaffolds.

Walking away from the beat - why police officers are voluntarily leaving in large numbers

E-Mail Home Office data shows the number of police officers voluntarily resigning from the force in England and Wales has more than doubled in the last eight years. Scant attention has been paid to the reason for this mass exodus. Until now. Researchers from the University of Portsmouth studied government statistics, and discovered the numbers of officers voluntarily resigning from the police service is rising - from 1,158 in the year ending March 2012 to 2,363 in the year ending March 2020. The figure amounts to 1.83 per cent of the total police officer population in England and Wales up from 0.86 per cent eight years ago.
