BRADFORD has been named the most thanked city in Yorkshire and the Humber, according to a national Thank a Teacher campaign. Following 12 months of pandemic learning, communities across the UK have been united in their gratitude to schools and teachers. The Teaching Awards Trust is dedicated to facilitating moments of gratitude by allowing pupils, parents and colleagues to send virtual thank you cards to teachers and wider school staff. In a fantastic accolade to the community, a virtual heatmap, which is based on the number of cards that have been sent through the Thank a Teacher website, revealed it was Bradford which came out on top when scanning the region.
COVID-19 ‘Lockdown Hero’ accolade for caring college health workers
Caring lecturers and staff at Coleg Cambria received a Lockdown Hero accolade for supporting students through the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Health and Social Care department at Cambria’s Yale site in Wrexham is among the finalists vying for a prestigious Pearson National Teaching Award.
Nominated by Lowri Jarvis, 17, and fellow learners on the Level 3 course, the team – including Claire Williams, Amy Campbell, Kate Davies, Wendy Fowler, Greg Rae and Stefanie Matthews – were praised for their “outstanding student and wellbeing support during lockdown”.
Lowri, from Wrexham, said their enthusiasm and energy helped the cohort tackle the challenges of COVID-19 over the past 12 months.

A SCHOOL for pupils with additional learning needs has been named the most thanked school in Wales. Ysgol Tir Morfa in Rhyl secured the title through the Teaching Awards Trust s Thank a Teacher campaign. As part of the campaign, students, staff, and parents at the school have been sending thank you cards to their teachers. Cards have been sent via the online portal between colleagues, and from children or parents to their teachers, in a collective effort to praise and acknowledge the individuals going the extra mile. Rhona O’Neill, headteacher at Ysgol Tir Morfa, said: Sending thank you cards through the Thank a Teacher campaignhas been a wonderful morale booster for our staff and families.
