PM hands over Ekushey Padak-2021

DHAKA, Feb 20, 2021 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today handed over the prestigious “Ekushey Padak-2021” among 21 eminent persons on the eve of Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day.
The premier distributed the Ekushey Padak (award), the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, at a function at Osmani Memorial Auditorium here, joining virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban.
The awardees are: Motahar Hossain Talukdar (posthumous), Shamsul Haque (posthumous) and Advocate Afsar Uddin Ahmed (posthumous) for their roles in the Language Movement.
Begum Papia Sarowar in music, Raisul Islam Asad and Salma Begum Sujata in arts, Ahmed Iqbal Haidar in drama and Syed Salahuddin Zaki in film, Dr Bhaskar Bandopandhay in recitation and Pavel Rahman for photography.

Govt takes elaborate programmes marking Amar Ekushey

DHAKA, Feb 18, 2021 (BSS) – The Cultural Affairs Ministry has drawn up an elaborate programme to observe the ‘Shaheed Dibash’ (Language Martyrs Day) and the International Mother Language Day-2021 to be held on February 21 in a befitting manner.
The programme was taken at an inter-ministerial meeting on January 18 last with State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid in the chair, according to a Press Information Department (PID) handout received here today.
Bangabandhu’s special contribution to the language movement will be presented in various programmes on Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day in line with the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,
Pahela Falgun, Valentine’s Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Feb 13, 2021 (BSS) – The Bangalee nation especially the youths with their animated vigour and colourful mind will celebrate Pahela Falgun, a festival welcoming the advent of spring, tomorrow to leave a message to all that love, affection, respect and commitment should be cornerstones of removing all ills and building the nation.
This year the festival comes when the entire world is facing the coronavirus pandemic.
Any formal programmes marking the day will not be held at Bakultala on the premises of Fine Arts Faculty on Dhaka University (DU) campus, center point of the festival, in view of the pandemic but the people will celebrate the day informally wearing colorful dresses and floral ornaments and offering flowers to dear and near ones.
