4 Seasons in Day 4
Today
was another massive day here at Lake Karāpiro for the 32nd
Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Waka Ama Sprint Nationals. We had an
incredible 97 Single Paddler Races today! Competitors racing
today were between 11 and 83 years old, that’s a
staggering 72-year age range in a single day’s
competition! Nga mihi nui ki nga kaihoe! (huge
congratulations to our paddlers for making this possible).
Another highlight was having our Adaptive paddlers take to
the water, though all have their individual limitations, on
the water, in the waka, its head-to-head and as full
out

Ruapehu
Alpine Lifts (RAL) Chief Executive Jono Dean says he’s
delighted that Mt Ruapehu’s crater lake temperature is
returning to stable levels.
“Not that the recent
alert affected the summer activity on the maunga, the crater
is a long way from our ski fields and the Sky Waka, which
operates all year round. We just want to reassure New
Zealanders that it’s safe to visit.

The Ministry of Health has for the first time
acknowledged the correlation between sustainable diets and
the climate emergency. The Ministry’s new eating
guidelines say there is an urgent need to promote diets that
are healthy and have low environmental impacts.
SAFE
Campaigns Officer Kylie Dale said it’s a step in the right
direction. While it’s great the new guidelines
stress the importance of sustainable diets, the new changes
don’t go far enough, said Dale. We’re
disappointed that this update has increased the recommended
number of daily servings of dairy
products.

There are five new cases of COVID-19 to report in New
Zealand since our last media statement on Sunday. There are
no new cases in the community.

December from the United States. This person tested positive
due to the onset of symptoms around day 9 and has been
transferred to quarantine in a facility in
Christchurch.
