6:20 p.m. Thursday update: The mandatory evacuation order has been downgraded to an evacuation warning, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office said. The shelter at Calaveras High remains open to evacuees through 8 p.m.

Some Calaveras County residents are being told to evacuate immediately as a quickly spreading wildfire burns north of Valley Springs, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday afternoon.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Officials will be at the main library branch located at 480 Greenley Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During that same time, Calaveras’ deputies will be doing the same at two locations. Volunteers will gladly take expired drugs off your hands at The Calaveras County Office of Education at 185 South Main Street in Angels Camp and the Toyon Middle School on Highway 12 between San Andreas and Valley Springs.

Mountain Ranch, CA – Human remains were discovered on a remote section of a Mountain Ranch man’s property in Calaveras County.
The bones were discovered by the property owner on Monday around 11:50 a.m. while walking on a seldom-used portion of his land north of San Andreas. When Calaveras County Sheriff’s Investigators arrived on the scene, they confirmed the remains were human.
Over several days, investigators and forensic personnel processed evidence at the site and determined that the remains are not part of a historic Native American Burial site. Sheriff’s officials also relayed that “identification of the subject along with the circumstances and manner of death is under current investigation.” They did not reveal whether foul play is sus

San Andreas, CA – A Calaveras Sheriff’s Deputy and a good Samaritan are being hailed as heroes after risking their lives to save a woman by running into a burning house.
On Monday morning just before nine o’clock, some neighbors could hear an alarm sounding near Lewis Street in San Andreas but could not pinpoint its exact location and called 911. Dispatch, with the help of several callers, was able to narrow it down to the 300 block of Roberts Avenue.

CALAVERAS COUNTY, Calif. Authorities in Calaveras County are investigating the discovery of human being discovered in a remote area near Mountain Ranch, Calif., just to the north of San Andreas.
