HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT-Since 2018, when Proposition 10 sought to expand rent control in California, rent control movements have only gained momentum throughout the United States.
Most recently, local officials in California, Minnesota, and New Jersey have considered implementing rent control at the urging of activists. With a nationwide housing affordability crisis only worsening due to wildly inflated rents, it’s no surprise that Americans want to finally rein in predatory landlords.
“Our neighbors are telling us they are getting forced out of their homes because they can’t afford unregulated rent hikes,” said Minneapolis City Council Member Jeremiah Ellison last month. “The data is telling us that our most vulnerable communities are suffering the most.”

In the years since Anthony Rendon rose to power as speaker of the California Assembly, nonprofits associated with his wife, Annie Lam, received more than $500,000 in donations and event sponsorships from dozens of companies with business before the Legislature.
Nonprofits are not required to publicly disclose their donors. But since 2016, when Rendon ascended to the speakership, five nonprofits where Lam is employed have received donations or sponsorships from more than 50 entities, according to public records, promotional flyers and interviews.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) There has been a movement of residents from Los Angeles Metro to the Inland Empire so people can get more bang for their buck, but because of this trend, rents are drastically rising in the I.E.
“Now with the pandemic, not being able to go out, having dinners at home, you’re like, dang, my kitchen’s a lot smaller than I remember,” said Fontana resident Roberta Arias.
Arias says the pandemic made her family and friends reevaluate what they were getting for their money, and they were not alone.
Since September, landlords have handed out 343 notices to Mountain View tenants that they had 15 days to pay past-due rent or potentially face eviction.
