Deep Dive Big Food hit pause on switching to natural colors. What will it take to make the shift?
Manufacturers point to a lack of consumer demand for swapping out artificial colors in brightly hued foods, but new research and legislation may force their hands. Published June 3, 2021 Permission granted by Sensient
On Feb. 5, 2016, Mars, Incorporated made a big promise: Within five years, it would remove artificial colors from its entire portfolio of food for people. Reid said in the press release accompanying the announcement. Our consumers are the boss and we hear them. If it s the right thing to do for them, it s the right thing to do for Mars.

Note: Because of the high volume of news regarding the coronavirus outbreak, that news has been published separately:
Covid seemed to drop out of the news this week; usually, I ll see virus stories on news sites most read or recent news lists; this week I had to go looking for them. Part of the reason was that the East Coast fuel pipeline shutdown dominated the headlines, but the underlying reason is that new cases in the US and globally are falling rapidly, even in India. And the news organizations are reluctant to cover a story that bleeds less this week than it did last week.
